A place for discussing one of the lesser seen Monsterpocalypse Monsters. Championed by, yours truly.
a Breif history of me and the game and my monster of choice....
I stumbled upon this game via the d6Generation (http://www.thed6generation.com//premium/size/10/?search=monsterpocalypse). By the time I managed to actually play a game over Vassal it appeared to have been at it's peak. Now that I have more time to play and have had a chance to see some wonderful beast smashing Kaiju movies in the last five years the game has been shelved by Privateer Press for the foreseeable future.
To begin with, I need to be honest: I've always been a squid guy. Giant squid have been my thing ever since I could hold a pencil and doodle. Bring a girl back to the pad, show her my squid book. When they first got that video of the giant squid with that ROV camera, I got goosebumps. My young daughters, now, they know what daddy loves, and it's the Kraken. When I was just getting into this game however, Krakenoctus had a champion by the name of Nathan Camp and from what I could tell he was doing far better than I could. So my second runner up for cool underwater critters has always been the Hammerhead, though I know far less about them in real life. Imagine my surprise when no one seemed to be writing about Leviathron or playing Leviathron. Here was a wicked looking figure - Building sized Jaws meets Wolverine, what a meating eating terror and no one was playing it.
Delicious.
Leviathron and Hondo were my two Must Have monsters from their series, but while I fell in total love with Hondo, I could never figure out how to play Leviathron...and that would go on to include all the Tritons, despite me really trying to like Anglax. Since playing a number of games against Leviathron, I think I've come to understand his game a bit better. Dangerous offensive potential that relies too much on getting Pathfinder to work, and like Hondo, suffering from low DEF and health. But has the means to literally eat it's way across the map, and with good city planning, can do so relatively safely.
Leviathron doesn't have the means to deal that sort of damage nor the health to last the protracted fight. What is available, like Bobb said is the potenial to get through screens or at least force some extra screening by your opponent for the "just in case Leviathron goes for it". I think there is some great back to back ability with the radial attacks generating some extra dice during the first attack.
Like Bobb has pointed out in our current game using the Spiral Relay to grant some movement triggers and monster moves needs to be part of my plan.
